Hunter Fan Company Employees:

Hunter M.I.S. is pleased to announce the availability of certain self-paced video and computer based training courses. These courses are designed so that a user can learn at their own pace, without a formal 'classroom' type teacher. A room next to the Marketing conference room has been set aside for this purpose, and it is equipped with a video player and personal computer.

Priscilla Jones will be available to help you get started by demonstrating how to use the training equipment. Priscilla will make special effort to be available during Monday through Friday of next week (Monday of April 19), from 10am - 11:30am and from 2am - 4pm. She can also assist any user needing equipment help on an 'as needed' basis after that initial week.

M.I.S. will keep a log of the training room usage, so that supervisors may track employee training.

As of Monday, April 19, the following will be available:

              Computer based training (ViaGraphix)

Outlook 97 - Emailing

Learning Power Point - Introduction

Learning Excel 97 - Intermediate

Learning Excel 97 - Macros and Charts

Other computer based training courses on the training room PC

The video tapes can be played in the training room, or taken home overnight and weekends.

In order to take advantage of this training, the trainee should:

1) Obtain permission from your supervisor, then call x2277 to arrange a time to use the training room. (First come, first served.)

2) Pick up and sign for the training media by visiting the computer room.

3) Return training materials when finished. You are responsible for their timely return.

Specific instructions for using the computer based training:

A) Enter your normal network network (email) logon and password in order to sign on to the training computer.

B) For any 'ViaGraphix' CD ROM course:

1) Insert the CD, and wait for the program to start automatically.

2) Double mouse click on the 'Chapter'.

3) Single click on the topic, then click the 'Play'.

Once inside the program, you can use the radio buttons on the bottom right of the screen to control the program (pause, play, stop, etc.)

                                             C) For any JDE course:

1) Double click the JDE Training icon that appears on the initial PC menu.

2) At the 'Teacher' log on screen, enter 'JDE' as the user name, and 'JDE' as the password.

3) If you see a screen 'Enter where you left off', answer 'No'.

4) If you haven't used the training tutorial before, then:

a) Click the 'Common Foundation' dot.

b) Click 'Overviews' and then click 'Ok'.

c) Click 'Teacher Overview'.

d) Click 'Introducing Teacher' for a tutorial on how to use this tutorial!

5) Follow the on-screen directions.

                  Important note #1

The display screens are presented in 'graphical' mode, not 'green screen' mode as we have here at Hunter. That means you will see a lot more boxes and the system will appear to be different. However, the functions are the same, you just need to 'point and click' to move through the tutorial rather than pressing the 'ENTER' key. Whenever you see a gray background, imagine a green screen.

Important note #2

This tutorial is based on the JDE version without custom modifications. That means that the screens and procedures are as JDE originally designed them, and as such they may differ slightly from the screens used at Hunter Fan. The procedures necessary to accomplish a given task may also be different, so please be sure to consult your supervisor if you have any questions as to the 'right way to do things'.

D) For the video tape courses:

1) Turn on the power for the monitor and tape player.

2) Insert tape. (It's the same as your VCR at home.)
